Black Panther continued its box office dominance, topping the domestic weekend box office for the third weekend in a row with $64.7 million in ticket sales.
That pushes its domestic total to $501 million, while its overseas tally of $397 million brings its worldwide total to $898 million. This makes it the third-fastest film to reach the domestic half-billion mark, tied with Jurassic World and one day behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It’s also now the 10th highest grossing domestic release of all time. And it’s far from done: The film opens next week in China.
In a distant second place was the opening weekend of Red Sparrow, which grossed $17 million domestic, and in third the first weekend for the remake of Death Wish, which grossed $13 million.
Sony’s Peter Rabbit was the fifth-place film this weekend, with $10 million domestic. It’s earned $84 million domestic and $17.8 million foreign for a $102 million worldwide total.
In seventh place is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, with $4.5 million weekend. It’s earned $393 million domestic and $536 million overseas for $928 million total.
Aardman’s Early Man, distributed by Lionsgate, earned $485,000 in its third weekend in release. It has earned $7.7 million to date domestic.
