BIAF 2020 Announces Short Film Selections

100 animated films will compete in six categories at the Academy Award-qualifying festival coming October 23-27.

The Bucheon International Animation Festival, an Academy Award-qualifying festival, has announced its official short film selections for BIAF 2020. A total of 100 animated films were chosen; over 2,500 works from 99 countries were submitted. Selections include 44 international shorts, 29 graduation shorts, 12 TV & commissioned, and 15 Korean shorts.

Held each year in Bucheon, South Korea, BIAF accepts animated films in the following categories: feature films, short films, graduation films, Korean short films, TV & Commissioned films and VR works. The festival’s mission is to promote and celebrate the animation genre in Asia. Over KRW 46,000,000 (Approximately US$42,000) in cash prizes will be awarded in six categories.

Of special note in this year’s selection are Blue Fear, by Marie Jacotey and Lola Halifa-Legrand, the winner of the Cannes International Festivals’ Short Competition; Cine Foundation’s Tamou by Tom Prezman and Tzor Edery; Toby Auberg’s Pile, Mitchelle Tamariz’s When We Leave; Critics’ week short Maalbeek by Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis’; and Venice’s Orizzonti Competition short, Sogni al Camp by Magda Guidi and Mara Cerri.
