To Avoid Earth Detonation, WB Gives Marvin The Martian A Movie

Warner Bros. will develop a MARVIN THE MARTIAN feature at Alcon Ent., per VARIETY.

Alcon principals Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce with Steve Crystal in a live action and CG animation blend.

Marvin, created by Chuck Jones, made his first appearance in a Looney Tunes cartoon in 1948. Marvin was often intent on blowing up Earth, foiled by Bugs Bunny.

Crystal is a former WB exec with a first-look at Alcon through his Charlie Co. banner. He developed the pitch as a Christmas story; Marvin would come to Earth bent on destroying it only to be trapped in a gift box. Alcon is looking for directors and writers.

The film will be aimed at the same family demographic as Alcon's RACING STRIPES and MY DOG SKIP.

Alcon announced in May it had raised $550 million in private funding and extended its deal at Warner Bros. WB will distribute 15 Alcon pics over the next five years, including the already-released P.S. I LOVE YOU, ONE MISSED CALL and the upcoming THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2 opening August 6.
