‘The Staircase’ creator is set to write, direct, and showrun the Arkham Asylum-centric series, described by Matt Reeves as, ‘like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.’
According to Variety, Antonio Campos (The Staircase, The Sinner) is onboard to run the upcoming The Batman spinoff series set in Arkham Asylum, serving as writer, director, and showrunner/executive producer on the project. No stranger to wearing many hats, Campos was also the writer, director, executive producer, and showrunner on HBO Max’s true crime limited series The Staircase.
The Arkham series will be separate from the previously announced Gotham PD series, which is also set in Reeves’ The Batman universe. A third HBO Max spinoff series following Colin Farrell’s Penguin is also in the works. While a plot has not been revealed for Campos’ series, Matt Reeves had previously described it as, “like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.”
Reeves will executive produce under his 6th & Idaho banner with Daniel Pipski and Adam Kassan. Dylan Clark will also executive produce with 6th & Idaho’s Rafi Crohn. Warner Bros. Television will serve as the series studio.
