The animated series, ALIEN CLONES FROM OUTER SPACE, is scheduled to premiere on ABC Kids in October 2008. Based on the humor books published by Simon and Schuster, the stories follow twins Barton and Nancy Jamison, regular 10-year-olds. That is until alien clones land in their hometown and end up living in the attic.
The ABC has acquired 52x11 episodes of the series, a co-production of SupperTime Ent. and Telescreen BV in the Netherlands. SupperTime also serves as both a co-creator and exec producer of the preschool series, TODDWORLD, in conjunction with Mike Young Prods.
Telescreen has been a leading producer, distributor and rights manager for almost 25 years with such well-known properties as MIFFY, MOOMIN and LIZZIE MCGUIRE, which air on most major European and Asian broadcasters. The company's PAZ series airs on Discovery Kids/U.S. and has also been nominated for an Emmy three times.
SupperTime principals, Gerry Renert and Liz Stahler will function as exec producers together with animation veteran and partner, Chris Henderson, and Telescreen principals, Theo van der Schaaf and Sjoerd Raemakers.
Written by comedy writer, H.B. Homzie, the ALIEN CLONES books have been a "Children's Book-of-The Month" selection and part of the acclaimed "Newton Curriculum Program," which oversees the educational content of thousands of U.S. schools, funded by the "No Child Left Behind Act." Last year, the program reached more than 170,000 students. Author Homzie has had her sketch work performed on both SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and THE DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW and will be serving as creative consultant on the series production.
According to Donna Andrews, ABC Kids programming and acquisitions, "We're very excited about ALIEN CLONES. We really appreciate how the series combines physical humor with such wonderful, classic comedy devices as mistaken identity and misinterpretation, to provide the age group with both fantastic wish fulfillment and a better understanding of the everyday social issues they face."
An animation preview and other information on the property will also be presented at MIP TV, stand # R33.05.
