2024 Quirino Awards Program Announced

200+ industry professionals will gather for the co-production and business forum in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, running May 9 to 11; online talks on YouTube will feature short film and school short film finalists.

The Quirino Ibero-American Animation Awards shared details of the seventh edition of the co-production and business forum coming to San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, May 9 to 11. The program includes the presentation of Ibermedia Next and the meeting of Ibero-American public television stations.

The awards promote development, co-production, and distribution of animation works from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. 200+ professionals have registered to attend, with 150 companies from 24 countries, including production companies, distributors, sales agencies, TV channels, and streaming platforms, participating. In addition, online programs will introduce the seventh-edition finalists and their projects. The awards announcement and presentation are May 11.

Ahead of the forum on May 9, there will be an Ibermedia Next presentation featuring 14 projects. The program’s grant promotes co-development of innovative processes in animation between companies and individuals from Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Latin America.

  • Women in Ibero-American Animation round table with the Animation! Ventana Sur and MIANIMA mentorship finalists.

Online Activities:

Quirino Awards will host a series of online talks beginning April 29 with the finalists in the three main categories. Watch it on the program’s YouTube channel.

April 29:

  • Best Short Film finalists: Marcus Vinicius Vasconcelos and Alois Di Leo (Lulina and the Moon), Miguel Lima (Almost Forgotten), and Martín Romero (To Bird or Not to Bird)

May 3:

  • Best Series finalists: Silvia Cortés (Jasmine & Jambo), Andrés Lieban (O Hotel Silvestre de Ana Flor), Michele Massagli, Beto Gomez and Giu Nishiyama (The Nutty Boy), Miguel Esteban (Poor Devil), and Paloma Mora (Sex Symbols)

May 6:

  • Best Feature Film finalists: Lorena Ares (Hanna and the Monsters), Pablo Berger (Robot Dreams), Isabel Herguera (Sultana's Dream), and Fernando Sirianni and Federico Moreno (El Paraíso)

Short Film and School Short Film finalists’ work will stream May 6-19 on Retina Latina (free access from all over the world after registration) and Filmin (access restricted to subscribers in Spain) streaming platforms.

Public screenings:

  • May 25 and 26: Feature Film finalists at Multicines Tenerife
  • May 10: Short Film finalists at Teatro

The screenings are free, but tickets are required.

Other activities incIude:

  • May 7: Espacio Aguere Cultural hosts Beerworking, a meeting between students and professionals of illustration, comics, design, animation, and video games—registration is required for this free event.

The seventh edition of the Co-Production and Business Forum’s main sponsorship is the Tenerife Council through Turismo de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Commission. The activity is also sponsored by ICEX and Animation from Spain.
