Best software for animating?

Hi guys,

So I just recently started animating (made my first video about a week ago) and was wondering what you guys thought the best softwares were.

So far, I used sketchbook to draw and final cut to edit. But the video was essentially just a series of pictures, one after the other. There was no like fluid movement or anything.

So, yeah, what recommendations would you have for a beginner? Is sketchbook a good place to start? I know they have a "flipbook" mode but that just seems like what I'm doing already, just putting picture after picture.

IDK like I said, I'm new to animation so I don't even know what I don't know...

animation is just pictures.

animation is just pictures. placing one on top the other, is what creates the motion. animation is the drawing and timing. there is no magic software. if your motion is not smooth. add more drawings inbetween, the portion that is not smooth

Okay but like, what software

Okay but like, what software could I use if I wanted to say move an object across the screen in a fluid movement. I've seen animators on youtube do things like this and it doesn't appear they're drawing the pictures but it's rather a sofware thing.

Also, which softwares do you use to animate?

auto keyframing. when the

auto keyframing. when the computer does the inbetween. that is  not really animation. that is really  the computer doing math. any program that does animation will have it. but it will look like something done by a computer not actually hand made

my software is specifically suited to me. you would most likely choose completely different software. that fits your needs

It really depends on several

It really depends on several factors, including the price point you’re comfortable with, but assuming that you’re talking about sticking to 2d animation the two big ones I think of are Toon Boom and Moho.

I use Moho Pro 12 myself. There is a far less expensive Debut version as well, but it is missing some of the best features. Frame by frame is a Pro feature for example.

I’d recommend watching some tutorials for both on YouTube to see what the workflow is in Moho vs Toon Boom. That should give you a good idea of where you want to drop some coin.
