Speaking of "In The Can"...

Congratulations once again to Co-op members Mike Blum, Derek Flood and Eric Hedman whose short films continue to charm the festival circuit! :-) Mike's "The Zit" keeps racking up awards at festivals around the world, and will have its public Los Angeles premiere at the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival (http://www.zitmovie.com/). Woodbury University Seeking Teacher

This spring, Co-op member Dori Herrick is offering an interdisciplinary class at Woodbury University between the departments of Architecture and Animation entitled "Urban Environments in Maya". The Architecture students will bring to the class a knowledge of design, and will have worked in Rhino and 3D Studio Max. The Animation students will bring to the class a knowledge of animation, with experience in Maya. If you have experience as an 3D environment modeler and/or 3D layout artist, may be interested in teaching a couple of nights a week and would like further details on the content and purpose of the course, please contact Dori at dorincheryl@earthlink.net.

Thanks for Your Support!

A few of you have asked about the response to our earlier "Support The Animation Co-op... By Watching A Movie!" entreaty, so here's our fundraising report...

...we sold 2 DVDs.

We've happily invested hundreds of our own hours and thousands of our own dollars into The Animation Co-op over the past two years, and will likely continue to do so. However, since this *IS* a co-op, one would hope that out of the 700 or so subscribed members and the 60 to 100 who attend any given Los Angeles-area event, more than 2 would be moved to a small gesture in support of this free resource (free to you, not free to sustain).

So let's try one mo' time. :-)

SUPPORT THE ANIMATION CO-OP... BY WATCHING A MOVIE!

With hundreds of subscribed members around the world and sixteen local chapters within the United States, the grassroots growth of the Co-op over the past two years has truly been phenomenal. Los Angeles-area events in particular have proven so popular that we typically end up turning away half again as many people as we are able to accommodate.

With this growth comes the challenge of sustainability. As interest spreads far and wide, we have reached the point where supporting The Animation Co-op requires resources that are reserved for qualified non-profit organizations. For instance, many of the public venues that we have our eye on for upcoming Co-op events and workshops will only deal with registered non-profits. Likewise, most or all of the grant sources which we have researched restrict their applications to registered non-profits. Which is where you can help... for the price of enjoying a movie. :-)

When you purchase one or more "Henry's Garden" DVDs ($8.99 + S&H per item), Simplistic Pictures will donate 100% of the proceeds in support of The Animation Co-op when the words "Animation Co-op" are mentioned in the order (http://www.simplisticpictures.com/store/store.htm). And as an added bonus reserved for Co-op members, you'll receive a 5-frame film strip from the "Henry's Garden" 35mm print, absolutely free! The "Henry's Garden" DVD includes the award-winning short film and the narrated "Henry's Garden" storybook, and makes a great gift.

So if you value the Co-op - if you've attended our events, pitched your work, obtained volunteers for your project, or if you simply appreciate the service that we provide to independent animators and would like to see this movement continue to grow - please think about supporting the cause with a DVD order. For less than the price of a ticket to the latest weekend snore, you can help The Animation Co-op continue its mission of service to the independent animation community! :-)

Thank you!

I like my copy of Henry's Garden.
I really like the motion menu at the front and the cool way the navigation buttons are so integrated and customized. Its an example of great design.

I like the story book section too. :)

And the label on the Disc itself is very cool.

You folks set the bar for those of us who want to do a cool design for a DVD package of a film to impress people. :)

Way to go!

Happy Trails,
Eric HEdman
