Joe Grant Has Passed Away

For those of you, like me, who were unaware...

What an unreal contribution he made to the industry...

The news is filtering out slowly. He passed last Friday, I heard a mention on the radio two days ago, and there was an obit in the paper this morning.

The saddest part of this is that he had agreed to do an episode of the Animation Podcast only days before he died. It's depressing to think that we were so close to hearing about his career and philosophy in his own words.

I did read that he died at his drawing board. For someone so dedicated to what he did, it's a fitting end.

What a long productive life he had. It would be great if we could all go out the way he did.

Dumbo is one of my all time favorite Disney flicks. It has such heart, and he was responsible for it...who knew.

Rest Well Joe.

Like I said, I had no idea. I stopped by Lango's site and saw him covering it days beforehand.

When I read where he died in your post is almost gave me chills. That's so fitting and poetic. I've had flashes ahead in my mind and I always saw myself dying while teaching someone.

I think I'll watch Dumbo again tonight in his memory. I don't own it but I have a friend that does. l guess I'll borrow it long term. She doesn't watch it. Hope someday someone can look back on my life that way. Guess I need to get to work on something memoriable.
