Fantastic Fest 2008

Fantastic Fest is a week-long festival featuring the best in new science-fiction, fantasy, horror, animation, crime, Asian, and all around badass cinema. The event was created to offer exposure to genre films which are often overlooked by the traditional festival circuit. We strive to offer acquisition, media and exhibition opportunities for undistributed films as well as to spotlight upcoming genre theatrical releases and give audiences a chance to see 35mm prints of repertory classics.

Cascade SIGGRAPH Presents "The Visual Story" with Bruce Block

Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH, Oregon and Southwest Washington's local SIGGRAPH chapter, today announced that renowned visual consultant Bruce Block will address the Portland community regarding his unique aesthetic theories behind visual structure and style. His lecture, based on his book, THE VISUAL STORY, will showcase intriguing visual examples of how these theories may be used within the direct planning and production of new projects, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The event will take place at the University of Oregon Portland Programs Center on Wednesday, September 10 at 6 p.m.

Rome International Film Festival 2008

The Rome International Film Festival features more than 100 films from more than 30 countries, including shorts and features in the categories of documentary, narrative, experimental and animation. Jury awards are presented for best narrative feature, documentary, narrative short, experimental film, and animated short. Audience awards are presented for best feature and best short. RIFF is always the weekend after Labor Day in early September. Located in historic downtown Rome, Georgia, all festival venues are within walking distance.

BuSho Budapest Short Film Festival 2008

BuSho (Budapest Short) was established in fall 2004 by a group of young Hungarian filmmakers and the first event successfully ran the following year. The festival received 360 individual entries from 45 countries in 2007. The festival consists of screenings, selections from film academies, feature films, conferences, and film and art workshops. 9th Annual Woodstock Museum Film/Video Festival

The Woodstock Museum is hosting its 9th film/video festival with the theme of "Freedom." The festival screens completed features, documentaries and shorts in all genres, including animation and digital media, as well as works in progress. All films must be in English or have English subtitles. The early deadline is March 31, the regular deadline is June 30, and the late deadline is July 31, 2008.

AsoloArtFilmFestival 2008

The 2008 edition of the AsoloArtFilmFestival will be held in Asolo (Treviso) from August 29 to September 7. AsoloArtFilmFestival upholds the cultural traditions and embodies the concepts established by the Festival Internazionale del Film sull'Arte e di Biografie d'Artista.

Created in 1973 by Flavia Paulon, the former Festival enjoyed great international success for over two decades, until it was interrupted in the middle of the '90s.

The 2007 Best Picture nominee THERE WILL BE BLOOD will screen on Monday, August 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the final feature in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' "Great To Be Nominated" series. Daniel Day-Lewis's powerful, Oscar-winning performance as a misanthropic oil man in the early years of the 20th century dominates Paul Thomas Anderson's unsettling adaptation of Upton Sinclair's novel OIL!.

The film's vfx were by Digital Backlot and ILM.

BlueCat Screenplay Competition 2008

BlueCat Screenplay Competition offers entrants written feedback on their scripts. All screenplays entered by Dec. 1 will receive feedback by Jan. 1. Screenplays submitted by Jan. 2 will receive their analysis by Feb. 1. All early-bird submissions will be eligible for resubmission prior to the March 3 deadline for a reduced entry fee of $35.

Since 1998, the BlueCat Screenplay Competition's mission of developing the undiscovered screenwriter continues to reach more writers every year, with BlueCat having the largest cash prize for a screenplay contest offering feedback to all writers.
