Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH, Oregon and Southwest Washington's local SIGGRAPH chapter, today announced that renowned visual consultant Bruce Block will address the Portland community regarding his unique aesthetic theories behind visual structure and style. His lecture, based on his book, THE VISUAL STORY, will showcase intriguing visual examples of how these theories may be used within the direct planning and production of new projects, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The event will take place at the University of Oregon Portland Programs Center on Wednesday, September 10 at 6 p.m.

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the premiere film festivals in the world. The event features many debuts of films that will go on to be box-office and critical successes. This major industry event is a place where studios test their films and seek out independent features.

Programs in 2008 include Wavelengths, Sprockets Family Zone and Midnight Madness.

Moondance is an international film festival dedicated to enhancing the role of women in and on the silver screen, as well as promoting, encouraging, educating and rewarding nonviolent conflict resolution in the arts and film. Screenwriters, filmmakers, playwrights, short story writers, TV writers, librettists, film music composers, children's filmmakers and writers, and young (18 & under) filmmakers, screenwriters and multimedia filmmakers are encouraged to participate.

The Woodstock Museum is hosting its 9th film/video festival with the theme of "Freedom." The festival screens completed features, documentaries and shorts in all genres, including animation and digital media, as well as works in progress. All films must be in English or have English subtitles. The early deadline is March 31, the regular deadline is June 30, and the late deadline is July 31, 2008.

The Brainwash Movie Festival, the original Drive-In, Bike-In, Walk-In outdoor festival, is accepting entries of shorts and feature movies for this year's edition. The festival will also be showing some of the best of more than 500 movies in the Brainwash catalog from shows over the past 13 years. Many of the Brainwash selections chosen for their daring and uncompromising style will never be seen on television or in other more restrictive venues. It will take place at the Alliance for West Oakland Development Parking Lot, 1357 5th St. at Mandela Parkway, Oakland, California.

The 2003 Best Picture nominee MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD will screen on Monday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the next feature in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' "Great To Be Nominated" series.

The Stony Brook Film Festival is a filmmaker-friendly, well-attended festival that takes place at a 1000-seat theater with a 40-foot screen. It features independent features and shorts in competition, premieres, special screenings, filmmaker panels and receptions.
