Dear all,
I am not a pro, just using animation once in a while for projects. Until now I have only done Stop Motion animation using Dragon Stop Motion. For a video installation I would like to try the following:
- projecting a sketchy rough 2D animation on the surface of a slowly turning 3D object.
It should look like drawings on the object's surface, e.g. fixed camera, a globe (3d object) slowly turns, there is a sketch of a landscape (2D) on its surface, which turns with the globe, while a 2D character walks through the landscape (by this way staying in the centre of the camera frame). Hope you get the picture?
Which workflow and software would you suggest (mac-user)?
Thanks for your advise!
KK
Hey KK,
I'm truly quite new to animation, but suppose the effect may be achieved if you made a wide 2D landscape background that can "wraparound" and use slightly different still crops from the background as a layer behind your moving animation, and if you really wanted a "globe" effect perhaps there's a fisheye effect you could put on the background/character that would give the illusion alright? Otherwise you may have to create a 3D sphere in a program like photoshop and do the same thing as before, but "flatten" your layers together over the angle of the sphere you choose to use (like the "skin" of the sphere), that would give you a globe and empty space behind the globe you could fill in how you like. Hope that helps, again mostly just guessing here.
And I haven't actually got to the scanning/piecing together cels stage yet, but I'm planning on using "OpenToonz" on my mac; it's an open source (free) animation program that supposedly Studio Ghibli used at least for Mononoke, and even altered the coding for further efficiency! I haven't really dived in yet but it looks promising.
Nagourta~
you do not use 3d programs. so you you are not aware. but that is just texturing. there is nothing special about it. placing an image on a 3d object. you can use video as a texture or a sequence of still images
I love animation and i would like to learn too 3D animation
At this time , i create my 2D animated cartoons on my youtube channel : Children's Tv Funny
I'm a girl and i learnt the 2D animation alone at home.
I hope you like it :)
