I watched your demo reel and I thought your strongest quality was the graphic design while the character animation was weak. A couple of other comments:
Web site
* The website took forever to load and I have a fast connection.
* The website was too big for my screen (1024 x 768).
* The buttons were too small.
Demo Reel
* The text between segments went by too fast.
* The music transitions were jarring.
* The reel was a mile wide and an inch deep. You try to showoff so many different areas, but I didn't see enough of many to really judge your skills.
* It too took a long time to load.
I particularly liked the chocolate lady's design and I liked the scene of the child by the door, but it was gone before I had a really good look. The king's walk had no business being on a demo reel.
I’ve changed the way the site loads adding a different preloader. It takes the same time but seems less…I hope.
I think I will make the buttons bigger, yes.
I have some difficulties to make a balance between the quality of the film image and the loading time, so I will probably make the demo reel shorter…
I will also consider changing the order of the animations.
I’m very thankful for your opinions that seemed to me very straightforward!
Many thanks!
I will just coment on the website itself.
I like the graphics and the website animations, but even on my wide screen format screen, the window needs to be maximized to get rid of the side to side scroll bar.
There is a lot to be said for that 800x600 rule they try to drill into our heads at school.
You might consider either cutting back on the width and height of this flash site, or going the 100% width and height route.
The only problem with that, is that it may effect the quallity of the graphics used, even though macromedia/adobe says otherwise.
You can fit a lot in a flash site, if layed out well.
Alan O, you obviously appear to know a great deal about length of time of credits, you said mine were too long, and these ones too short, so please give us all your opinion of just how long or short credits should be.
These aren't credits but introductory text between segments. The other difference is that your pieces were short films and this is a demo-reel. This thread isn't the place to discuss your work, but Valdemar's. Valdemar has text in two languages (if I remember right) and it takes longer to sort out which one to read and then read it than if it was monolingual. As a general rule, I like to put important text up long enough to read it slowly outloud and then give it a bit more.
It doesn’t have to be any elaborated opinion…
A simple and honest comment will do.
Thank you
