I'm writing a small video game, which is going to require SVG as part of it's input. So far I've been using Adobe Illustrator to draw my 2D graphics, but have been pulling my hair out with it.
I find it very hard to draw nice, organic lines in illustrator that you need to do facial features. Either everything comes out looking blocky or wiggly. It's also really hard to click on the tiny control points and very easy to accidentally delete your work. Illustrator also has a really poor SVG export mechanism. It fills the exported file with lots of crud and deletes important things.
From an art perspective, what's your favorite vector editing program? Is there one that makes drawing a cartoon character almost as easy as sketching it on a drawing tablet in a program like Photoshop?
Also, what would be a nice animation program? Can it export in SVG?
Thanks!
Mark McKay
Flash is a great vector drawing program that makes drawing vectors as easy as sketching on the tablet. It also is great for animation - as that is it's primary purpose. Don't know about the SVG export, though.
All of the latest releases of Adobe has an SVG output,
you can also do yr art work in flash and cut and paste it into adobe directly (AI) or vice-versa so that makes things quiet easy. similarly with corel .

I don't know how much experience you have with Illustrator, but it sounds like you're fairly new to the program. I'd strongly recommend working with it some more and building your chops. It is the leading program for vector art creation and, once you're familiar with it, very easy to use.
Flash does do vectors, but since one of your complaints was that Illustrator adds stuff to the export, I think you'll find Flash frustrating too. One of my major complaints with Flash's vector lines is that it will arbitrarily add points to those lines after you've created them, and if you delete the points you didn't create the curve changes.
try Coral Draw (Trial) it is most proffesional design application out on the market.
