I thought it would be cool if we could start a new sketching thread. I'll kick it off! I hope to see lots o' art! Cheers

Sweet work guys! Lovin it!
I have an idea about how to showcase your art in the Daily Sketch Forum. Everyone who would like to take part in the forum could start a thread with their user name then adding Gallery afterwards, as the title.
Eg. Danimation Gallery (JChap 03 already has done this)
Anytime you have a new sketch or finished work you can post it in your own thread. Not only does it keep the forum tidy, but it also let's everyone know when you last posted. I think this will work quite well. Any comments or ideas are welcome. Cheers

If I am doing a portrait, the first thing I begin to shade and detail after the rough basics are in are the eyes. If you screw up those, there's not much point in fancying up and finishing the drawing, because it hinges on the eyes and they suck so your portrait will too (in my experience). But nail them and it's a huge stress relief. If you see my first portrait of my sister in this thread, the bottom half of her face is at a SLIGHTLY slightly different angle than anything else. But because the eyes are well done (maybe not after getting shot and scanned and Photoshopped though, not sure) it is generally well-received.
Merry Xmas everyone. Here's a nice, festive reindeer
guys this could be a stupid question, but how did ya colour those drawings, did u actually paint them or do them on the computer, got anytips on colouring (computer wise)
really like the drawings!
ill put some up soon hopefully x
Reeeeeeally wanna change my username :(
Cool stuff everyone.
I just filled my sketchbook and posted a bunch of stuff from it on my blog (www.jaredchapman.blogspot.com)...

Not a silly question at all! Which drawings do you speak of though? If you can tell us which ones, then I'm sure the artist will let you know. Cheers

dan I have been noticing more and more that your art is very very interesting, and I seem to be seeing it alot! I like the way you draw, its very round and very...I cant describe it. Point being, what would you call your style of art, and where CAN I learn do draw like that? =P
my work
Hey that sounds cool, maybe someone can bring back the "Fill this thread with animation" Thread. :P That was one of my all time favorite threads here at awn. I always liked looking at everyones work.
Well here r my first sketches for 05. I know i know it's taken me a while to get to my new years resolution but i'm on my way. I will try to keep this up from now on. I did these out of my of my sis's hip hop mag. Just wanted to draw something different and in pen. Pen i very unforgiving but feels good cause if the mistake fall. Hey it's there which makes me care a little less. :P

this is my first time posting anything. here are some goofy drawings i did in flash. i don't have a tablet so i do the best i can with the mouse. it's fun to just sketch something in a couple of minutes and color it and see what you can come up with.

cool
Thanks for the comps Robvmonte! I don't know what my style would be called. I have a lot of people tell me it looks very Disney-ish. I just keep drawing all the time, and that's probably the best advice I can give you too. I know that Chap03 is working on a tutorial, maybe we could start a new thread with development work, so everyone can see a pic from start to finish. Thanks again Robvmonte! Cheers

Agh, life sketches. Seeing them always makes me feel guilty because I don't go out often enough to catch up on them. Maybe if we had more colourful personalities in the neighbourhood. A bald, tattooed guy sure would help. But seriously, like 'em.
Oh well.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v430/krakelwok/Pose.gif)
Here's a pose I'm quite fond of. Wonder whether I'll like it as much once it's cleaned up.
And here's the centerpiece of a layout I'm planning.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v430/krakelwok/Layout.gif)
And finally, some more work on the Jabberwocky poem. (From last year and not exactly a sketch, though ...)

The forte for you, linverse, I think really lies in those dragons. They don't look stiff at all and appear to be very well constructed.
Should AWN take this thread and move it to a specific "Daily Sketch" forum?
What do you think? I think it would help expose this great work to more people as well as potentially get more people to share their work.

I say yeah move it.

Saaaawwweeeettt!!!! this thread has it's own section coolness.
Well here is mine for today. I've gone back to some anime sketch studies :P
Kick ass stuff Jabber r those from one of ur projects??

Yes, it's stuff from stories and concepts I've been thinking about for years now. The pose is a character from a little thing tentatively called 'Night Pirates' because I'm crazy for pirate stories and I want to do one myself one day.
The rest are all illustrations for the Jabberwocky poem. I think it'd make a swell short film but I don't have the technical, monetary and human resources at my disposal to get working on it the way I'd like. Can't hurt to make character designs and sketches, though, maybe I get to pitch it some day.
This is some ruff pencil done over the ruff pose with all the red filtered out. I'm still partial to it.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v430/krakelwok/Pose2.gif)
We actually have it successfully set up just that way at my site I work for, with a very familiar moderator. I say go for it, from experience.
Here's 2 of my sketches, trying to get back into life drawing to improve my character animation.
yah do it.
Gadzooks!
That would be cool Dan!
And may I be the first to suggest that Danimation be a Mod on that thread, as well?
After all, he did start this crazy runaway train of a thread...!
(Just a thought!)
Cheers!

Sweet work Jabs! I've always enjoyed your style. Great work! longarms, great work as well. I should get back onto the life drawing horse! I find that LD is something you have to do all the time, or the skillz go down the tube. Atleast my does! :) Great work guys! Cheers

I think it would be a good idea for people to post their sketch in its own thread. It might make it easier for people to see everyone's work? What do you think?
Dan Sarto is Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Animation World Network.
I suppose the suggestion isn't so bad since the whole Daily Sketch idea was honoured with its own forum. Then again, seeing all kinds of different styles in one thread is nice as well. I'll go with the flow.
Thanks for the praise, Dan, and congrats on your new position here. (Oh, and on the little new animator, too. I don't believe I mentioned it before.)
This is a drawing I did while reading the book Angels & Demons by Dan Brown
It is from the book and I just had to see if I could make it look right what do you think.

Damage, those are something special. It feels like a realistic version of surrealism. Nice color choices, and there's a fluidity and depth in your lines that really pulls things off the page. I'd love to see the top one in motion.
For this page of illustrations...
Damage. Great expressions in the fox and the green guy. Well drawn as well.
Alienant. The Armordillo is a cool idea and drawing.
D. Cavy. Nice detail work on the dog's face. It looks well-proportioned too, which is tough to do sometimes.
anomolly. Interesting abstract drawing. I like the ear sticking out of the hair.
iron deficient robot. The robot looks a little iron deficient. But you probably knew that already. But at least he's got a heart, unlike that tin man guy from oz.
tallart. Nice eyeball and eye lids. I always start my characters by drawing the eyes first. How about you?
fs :)
Its a new year! yea!...Now this thread is one of its own, nice!... here some stuff, hope the shows...i was playing in photoshope alot this break, trying to see whats what...

Hey chickenchop4
The eye is the main part of any drawing I do of a face. It can be animal, human or cartoon. The eyes alone can tell a story and tell if the person is male or female. :D

Here is today's sketch! This guy is for a new series of drawings that I'm doing called the "Monsters of Metal." They'll be monsters based on real metal bands. Can you guess what band this guy is? Cheers

Wow. The message I have is apparently too short...but that's it.
Nice work Danimation. I especially liked the second drawing of the lady. Your color shoice is nice too. A daily sketch is a great habit to have. I had gotten into the habit myself, but the last couple of weeks have been a bit busy. I've started picking up the pencil again. As a matter of fact, here's one I did today. It's called "Nobody Wants To Have Fun Anymore".
