Getting Buzzed - Nolan's Inception & The Two Week Round-Up

Just a peek inside Christopher Nolan's Inception

Giddy up film fans, it been two week since a non-special edition of Getting Buzzed. DARK KNIGHT's Christopher Nolan is bringing us a creepy looking sci-fi flick INCEPTION next summer and that tops the buzz list in my book even after two weeks on the net. There also a couple other fall releases that just missed my top 30 anticipated films of the fall list.

Getting Buzzed
9) Adventures of Power (Oct. 9)
Trailer
NAPOLEON DYNAMITE-inspired films have arrived. Writer/director/star Ari Gold plays a dedicated air drummer. Most people beat him up for it and until he finds others like him and enters an air drum contest again ENTOURAGE's Adrian Grenier. Looks like it coud be dumb fun. Also stars Michael McKean and Jane Lynch.

8) (Untitled)
Trailer
While its satire seems broad, this spoof of the art world gets some things just right… at least from the trailer. Marley Shelton of GRINDHOUSE plays an art gallery owner who falls for an avant-garde musician played by Adam Goldberg (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN).

7) Lying
Trailer
The trailer gives zero insight into the plot, but it does set an ominous mood. The cast has me intrigued as well — Chloë Sevigny, Jena Malone, Leelee Sobieski. Apple describes — When a long weekend brings four women together in the countryside, each of them is forced to navigate the depths of social interaction as virtual strangers. How well do we really know the friends we make in adulthood? And in the age of lies, what can be made of the person who tells untruths so small they serve no obvious purpose?

6) Trucker
Trailer
Michelle Monaghan (GONE BABY GONE) has been get praise for her performance as a female truck driver who enjoys her life of sex and drinking and long hauls. But when her ex Len (Benjamin Bratt) drops off their son (Jimmy Bennett, STAR TREK), her life of partying turns upside-down. Nathan Fillion (WAITRESS) also stars.

5) Youth in Revolt
Trailer
Is Michael Cera in every film these days? Here he plays a hapless virgin who starts taking advice from his dangerous, but suave, alter ego. He burns down Berkley to get the girl. That's a new one.

4) Brief Interviews With Hideous Men (Sept. 25)
Trailer
When John Krasinski got his first check from THE OFFICE, he went an optioned the writes to David Foster Wallace's book BRIEF INTERVIEWS WITH HIDEOUS MEN. Now he's written, directed and started in a movie version. Julianne Nicholson (LAW & ORDER) plays a woman doing a psychological survey of men's thoughts on women. Krasinski, Will Arnett, Bobby Canavale, Dominic Cooper, Max Minghella and Timothy Hutton play these hideous men.

3) Amreeka (Sept. 4)
Trailer
If I would have seen this trailer before I did my 30 most anticipated films of the fall list, this would be on it. Cherien Dabis's film follows the struggles of a Palestinian woman and her son as they move to the U.S. right at the start of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Nisreen Faour and Melkar Muallem star as mother and son. Looks to be a touching story of immigrants, prejudices and common concerns between all cultures.

2) Mother (TBA)
Trailer
THE HOST director Bong Joon-ho's new film MOTHER was in competition at Cannes. Story follows a mother who tirelessly tries to free her simple-minded son when the police finger him for a murder she is convinced he could not have done. Looks like powerful stuff. The word has been very good.

1) Inception (July 16, 2010)
Trailer
Little is know about Christopher Nolan's next film except that it involves corporate blackmail and sci-fi. The cast is impressive though — Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Michael Caine, and Lukas Haas. After DARK KNIGHT can Nolan be mistrusted?
