Gaiman's Books of Magic Gets Swedish Directors

Warner Bros. Pictures has signed Swedish directors Simon Sandquist and Joel Bergvall for the film adaptation of DC Comics' BOOKS OF MAGIC, reports THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. First published as a mini-series in 1990, the comic follows a teenager who studies magic in contemporary London. Neil Gaiman, the author of the original story and the novel, will serve as exec producer.

LevyMann Signs Itty Bitty Book Deal With Penguin

LevyMann Entertainment has announced a five-year joint venture with New York-based Grosset & Dunlap, a division of Penguin Young Readers Group, to produce a new line of childrens books based on the ITTY BITTY HEARTBEATS series. The books will be released worldwide beginning with a limited release in the fall of 2004 and expanding into a full release in 2005.

Animation Road Show

The Labyrinth will be holding The Animation Road Show featuring a huge selection of discount books. Categories include animation books, illustrated kids books, artist sketchbooks, art instruction books, manga, comics, anime art books, toys, wall scrolls, artist reference and fine art books. The Labyrinth is run by Jessica and Dan Merisanu. Dan works as a character animator in downtown Toronto. A graduate of Sheridan's classical and computer animation -- he helps pick out the titles. His wife Jessica manages the traveling book sale. The sale will be located at 477 Richmond Street from 9:00 am

LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. has teamed with Disney Publishing Worldwide to bring Disney character to its LeapPad Learning System. Children place the Disney books on the LeapPad player, pop in the cartridge and touch any page with the Magic Pen to have LeapFrog read the words. These books also work with the LeapPad Plus Writing Learning System and the Quantum Pad Learning System.

Warner Options Eddie Dickens Trilogy

In a move that looks like it wants to recapture the success of its HARRY POTTER franchise, Warner Bros. Pictures has optioned Phillip Ardaghs childrens trilogy of books, featuring the main character Eddie Dickens, reported DAILY VARIETY. Scribe Matthew Huffman (ME AND MY MONSTER) has been tapped to write the screenplay for the first book, A HOUSE CALLED AWFUL END. The story follows an 11-year-old British boy, who goes to live with his Mad Uncle Jack and Mad Aunt Maud when his parents get sick and ends up in the St. Horrid's Home for Grateful Orphans.
