Keiichi Hara’s animated adaptation of Sachko Kashiwaba’s original story, ‘The Mysterious Journey from the Basement’ to be distributed in U.S. and Canada by ELEVEN ARTS.
LOS ANGELES – ELEVEN ARTS has announced the U.S. and Canadian release of The Wonderland beginning January 31. The film will be screened with the original Japanese dialogue with subtitles only.
Based on Sachko Kashiwaba’s original story “The Mysterious Journey from the Basement,” and created by Signal.MD animation studio (Napping Princess, Recovery of an MMO Junkie) The Wonderland finds young Akane who, a day before her birthday, meets the mysterious alchemist Hippocrates. She is transported through a basement into a fantastical world full of magic and color, however the world is soon revealed to be in danger. It is Akane’s responsibility and destiny as the “Green Godess” to save it. The only problem? Akane just wants to go home.
The film is directed by Keiichi Hara, whose previous works, Miss Hokusai and Colorful won Jury Awards at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Character and visual design were done by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his books Momentary and Eternal, as well as his digital and print illustrations.
