Despite heavy teasing by golden lasso-wielding actress Gal Gadot, James Gunn and Peter Safran have no current plans for a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ project, and her chances of joining the new DCU are slim.
We guess it was too good to be true. Earlier this month, fans of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman work were teased by the actress herself that she would return to her iconic, golden lasso-wielding role. Speaking with ComicBook, she gushed, "I love portraying Wonder Woman. It's so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James [Gunn] and from Peter [Safran] is that we're gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together."
The actress also stated in an interview with Flaunt magazine that she “was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.”
Now, however, Variety has confirmed through sources close to the franchise that a Wonder Woman 3 film is not in development, and that her chances of joining the new DCU are slim.
In fact, aside from the Paradise Lost prequel series currently in development at Max, Gunn and Safran have no current plans for any Wonder Woman project at all. Sounds like some major miscommunication is afoot, and no one has come forward to clarify. Luckily, without a definitive statement, Gadot may not be out for good, just in production lineup limbo. Hopefully someone spills the beans soon. Where’s that lasso of truth when you need it?
