Led by Robert Bock, the studio delivered over 700 shots, including four robots, a mechanical arm, and numerous environmental elements, on the Amazon Prime Video neo-futurist semi-anthology.
Leading VFX studio Rodeo FX has shared with AWN a new VFX breakdown reel showcasing their extensive work on Amazon Prime Video’s neo-futurist semi-anthology, Tales from the Loop. The challenging work required a delicate balance between the sci-fi fable’s naturalism and the photorealistic elements that gave the show an almost surreal, but uniquely futuristic look and tone.
To take point, the show’s supervisor, Andrea Knoll, enlisted the aid of Rodeo FX (Stranger Things Season 3, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) as lead vendor. Led by onset supervisor Robert Bock, the team at Rodeo FX breathed life into the more fantastical elements of Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag’s original vision. VFX production included four robots (three moving, one static), Paul Schneider’s mechanical arm, and countless environmental elements comprising a world that feels both painterly, humanistic and lived-in yet sharp, tech-forward and brand new. In all, Rodeo FX contributed over 700 shots to the series; those two hours of screen time are a record for the studio.
From executive producer Matt Reeves and based on the acclaimed art of Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag, Tales from the Loop explores the town and people who live above “The Loop,” a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe – making things possible that were previously relegated only to science fiction. In this fantastical mysterious town, poignant human tales are told that bare universal emotional experiences while drawing on the intrigue of genre storytelling.
The series stars Rebecca Hall (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Town), Paul Schneider (Parks and Recreation), Daniel Zolghardi (Eighth Grade), Duncan Joiner (Waco) and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, Game of Thrones).
Tales from the Loop is from Fox21 Television Studios and Amazon Studios, in association with 6th & Idaho and Indio Studio. The series was created by Nathaniel Halpern, who wrote all eight episodes, and also serves as executive producer alongside Reeves, Stålenhag, Mark Romanek, Adam Kassan, Rafi Crohn, Mattias Montero, Samantha Taylor Pickett, and Adam Berg.
