Hard work and pure self-belief pay off as the Malaysian-made “War of the Worlds: Goliath” wins big at the Los Angeles 3D Film Festival.
The Malaysian-made War of the Worlds: Goliath (WOTWG) picked up the award for the Best 3D Animated Feature Film at the Los Angeles 3D Film Festival, beating the more popular mainstream movies like Madagascar 3, ParaNorman and Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings.
The steampunk-inspired feature is based on H.G. Wells’ science fiction classic “War of the Worlds.” Since premiering at the San Diego Comic Convention in July, WOTWG has been garnering praise for its impressive designs and concepts of futuristic machines.
Four years in the making, WOTWG is produced by Tripod Entertainment and directed by animation veteran Joe Pearson. Malaysian actor Tony Eusof lent his voice for the film alongside Peter Whingfield, Marl Sheppard and Adam Baldwin.
Tripod Films chief executive officer Leon Tan describes the movie as, “arguably Malaysia’s most expensive animated movie,” in an interview with Digital News Asia.
If the award is any indication, this marks a step forward in gaining recognition for the Malaysian creative content industry, which is just as capable of making world-class feature films. Congratulations to the team!
