UK-based Studio XYZ director Stephen Watkins directs the short film Incarceration as part of the Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration initiative from Sesame Workshop.
Being the first non-American to direct for Sesame Street is no mean feat, but it looks like the UK-based Studio XYZ director Stephen Watkins has completely nailed it.
This touching and insightful piece is brought to you by the letters X, Y and Z, for Sesame Workshop NYC, with beautiful character design done by Celeste Potter.
Part of Sesame Workshop’s Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration initiative, the short film was created to help the over 2.7 million children in the U.S. with incarcerated parents deal with a uniquely difficult situation:
These children often feel a number of complex emotions: sadness, shame, guilt, and anger. Yet they often don’t feel they are allowed to talk about their experience, partly because the adults in their life oftentimes don’t know how to talk about the experience either. That’s why Sesame Workshop launched Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration, a multimedia, bi-lingual (English/Spanish) outreach initiative with stories featuring Sesame Street’s beloved characters that help children feel reassured, loved and supported.
