The ‘Hunters’ and ‘Watchmen’ story editor gets the nod after a pain-staking discovery process aided by star Mahershala Ali.
The pen is mightier than the Blade. Sorry, we had to. Marvel Studios’ upcoming franchise reboot, now officially known as Blade, the Vampire Slayer, has finally found a writer in Hunters and Watchmen story editor Stacy Osei-Kuffour. Mahershala Ali, who is attached to star as the eponymous hero, served as an integral part of the writer discovery process.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The studio has spent the last six months meeting with writers in what was described as a meticulous search, with Ali directly involved. Only Black writers were seriously considered, a reflection of Marvel's focus on diversity and making representation a key factor — especially when tackling nonwhite characters.”
The original story of Blade follows the half-human, half-vampire Eric Brooks who seeks revenge for the death of his mother at the hands (or fangs) of vampires. Brooks was first portrayed by Wesley Snipes in the 1998 film of the same name. We’re excited to see Osei-Kuffour’s take on the now classic MCU tale for Disney / Marvel.
Blade, the Vampire Slayer is slated for a 2022 theatrical release.
