Sony’s ‘El Muerto’ Scrubbed from Theatrical Release Calendar

The ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff starring Bad Bunny as the son of a luchador set to inherit the ancestral superpowers of his bloodline was originally set to release theatrically on January 12, 2024.

Disney isn’t the only studio shuffling its movie slate. Sony has revealed an updated calendar, notably sans the live-action Spider-Man spinoff film El Muerto starring Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny) as the son of a luchador set to inherit the ancestral superpowers of his bloodline. The film was originally scheduled to release theatrically on January 12, 2024.

The rough and ready film was to be directed by Jonás Cuarón (Desierto), while the script was penned by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Blue Beetle). As the project was in early development, not much else is known of the cast or plot.

Sony also shifted the dates for Dumb Money, which will now open on September 22 instead of October 20, as well as the release for the biblical epic The Book of Clarence, which will now take the January 12 place of El Muerto.

Still upcoming for the ever-expanding Sony Pictures Marvel universe is Kraven the Hunter, set to release on October 6, 2023, and Madame Web, set for a February 16, 2024 release.
