Sony Pictures Television – Kids has confirmed series orders for the two animated reboots, as well as ‘kid’ versions of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Shark Tank,’ with scripts delayed due to the WGA strike.
It’s for the children! Sony Pictures Television – Kids has confirmed to AWN it has made series orders for animated versions of the ’70s shows Bewitched and The Partridge Family, as well as “kid” versions of Wheel of Fortune and Shark Tank.
“There’s such a vast history at Sony Pictures Television with properties that we could play around with and reinvent, introducing a whole new generation of kids to them,” Joe D’Ambrosia, executive VP and general manager of SPT - Kids told THR.
The revamped Bewitched series will center on Tabitha Stevens, daughter of witch Samantha from the original live-action series, as she manages her dual enrollment in regular middle school and a magical academy. Alternatively, The Partridge Family animated series follows a Brooklyn family that operates a food truck, serving both treats and tunes. Currently, the WGA strike has put the scripts for both series on a temporary hold.
The unscripted game and reality shows are still in early development and will likely feature some tweaks in gameplay or rules to adapt to the more laidback and fun nature of children’s entertainment.
“Our mission is straightforward and clear,” D’Ambrosia added. “We’d like to be known as a premier content creator for kids who build new global franchises for Sony, like the SPT scripted team has done with Cobra Kai, the game show division has accomplished with Jeopardy! and the international team with The Crown, but in the kids’ space.”
