Emmy Award-winning creator Cirocco Dunlap’s adult animated comedy follows Dr. Sleech and Dr. Klak - aliens, best friends, and intergalactically renowned surgeons - as they tackle anxiety-eating parasites, illegal time loops, and deep-space STIs; watch it February 23.
Prime Video shared a trailer and key art for its upcoming adult series, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, from Emmy Award-winning creator Cirocco Dunlap and Maya Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew Behrens, and Natasha Lyonne’s Animal Pictures. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, with animation by Titmouse Studios, the series, which has a two-season order, premieres in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on February 23, 2024.
The show follows Dr. Sleech and Dr. Klak—aliens, best friends, and intergalactically renowned surgeons—as they tackle anxiety-eating parasites, illegal time loops, and deep-space STIs. In Season 1, doctors Sleech and Klak take on a highly dangerous and potentially groundbreaking case and, in doing so, put existence itself in jeopardy. Although considering their dismal personal lives, oblivion might be an improvement.

“Hello!
My name is Cirocco Dunlap and I created The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, a sci-fi animated half-hour comedy produced by Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne. Like a traditional procedural, every episode introduces a new sci-fi illness (e.g. run-of-the-mill diseases like getting stuck in a time loop, or an STI that turns you into the last person you slept with). While this show is funny and absurd, a sci-fi hospital is also a natural place to explore deeper emotional themes like mental illness, chosen & rejected family, and - of course - how to find clothes that fit when you turn into the last person you slept with.
Mental illness, untimely death, and short legs run in my family, and you’ll find all of these at play throughout the first season. Additionally, you’ll watch extremely driven characters who are passionate about their careers as they try (and fail, and try, and fail) to love each other. I hope they offer some warmth, comfort, and laughter in the face of life’s greatest joke: the ever-present nearness of death.

Season 1’s stellar guest star lineup includes Tracee Ellis Ross (American Fiction, Black-ish); Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live, Fire Island); Abbi Jacobson (Broad City); Jay Ellis (Top Gun: Maverick, Insecure); Andrew Dismukes (Saturday Night Live); Lennon Parham (Minx); Gary Anthony Williams (Night Court); and John Waters (Hairspray).
Keeping it all in the family, Kieran Culkin, who voices Plowp, is joined in the first season by his real-life brothers, Macaulay Culkin, Rory Culkin, Christian Culkin, and Shane Culkin. Series regulars include Rudolph, Lyonne, Keke Palmer, Stephanie Hsu, Culkin, and Sam Smith.

Artist and animator Robin Eisenberg co-produces and serves as production designer.
