Nickelodeon combines two of its most popular cartoon series for an hour-long special, THE JIMMY/TIMMY POWER HOUR. In it, the 2D FAIRLY ODDPARENTS' star Timmy Turner goes 3D in Retroville, the world of THE ADVENTUES OF JIMMY NEUTRON, BOY GENIUS while its 3D star, Jimmy Neutron, takes a 2D turn in ODDPARENTS Dimmsdale. The show premiered May 7, 2004 at 8:00 pm with encore presentations May 8 at 7:00 pm and May 9 at 5:00 pm.
THE JIMMY/TIMMY POWER HOUR will be released on DVD May 11.
In THE JIMMY/TIMMY POWER HOUR, Timmy wants to get his hands on a gadget for his science fair so his fairy godparents transport him to the secret lab of Jimmy Neutron in Retroville. Translated into a 3D character, Timmy enjoys playing with all the cool inventions, much to the chagrin of Jimmy, the boy with the genius IQ.
Matters get worse when Jimmy is accidentally sent to Timmy's 2D world, Dimmsdale, where he is uncharacteristically perceived as a slacker. There he must battle fairy-obsessed school teacher Mr. Crocker, who manages to get into the fairy world to take it over. Timmy soon has his hands full as well when he causes Jimmy's robotic dog, Goddard, to grow to monstrous proportions, malfunctions and tries to destroy Retroville.
The production was challenging as two different studios worked to compensate for the technical differences between the 2D and 3D, as well as the stylistic and character design differences. THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, a Nicktoons production created by Butch Hartman, is produced in traditional animation at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, California. THE ADVENTUES OF JIMMY NEUTRON, BOY GENIUS, created by John A Davis and directed by Keith Alcorn, is produced in 3D using LightWave at DNA Prods. in Irving, Texas.
