CAKE and Nickelodeon sign a deal to bring Wanda and the Alien to Nick Jr. in 2014.
Leading international kids content distributor CAKE has signed a deal with Nickelodeon, one of the world’s leading global entertainment brands for kids and family, to air Wanda and the Alien on more than 70 Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels internationally (excluding the U.S.). The enchanting preschool series will begin airing on Nickelodeon’s international channels in late 2014.
Wanda’s world is filled with wonder and her unconditional friendship with the Alien. Though a young rabbit and a little green extra-terrestrial with four eyes may have very little in common, by sharing wonderful adventures and revelling in their differences, the pair prove that friends really do come in all shapes and sizes.
Co-produced by Random House Children’s Screen Entertainment and Komixx Entertaiment, the 52 x 10’ animation series will debut in the UK on Channel 5’s Milkshake! in Autumn this year. This marks the first key international agreement for Wanda and the Alien and is a great first step for Random House’s first book to screen transfer. The books are written by children’s favourite, award-winning author and illustrator, Sue Hendra.
Wanda and the Alien appeals to both preschool girls and boys and showcases some of the best 2D animation. Every episode sees the two characters exploring the beauty of Wanda’s charming forest and the Alien’s incredible and funny planet, while highlighting the importance of values such as friendship, trust and kindness.
Layla Lewis, Vice President, Content Acquisitions, Nickelodeon, Viacom International Media Networks, said, “We are excited to bring Wanda and the Alien to our Nick Jr. audiences internationally. This charming series will make a great addition to our Nick Jr. line-up as it combines strong characters with engaging storylines. The show’s themes of friendship and problem solving are universally relevant and will captivate preschoolers across the globe.”
Andrew Cole Bulgin, Partner and Head of Film & TV, RHCSE, “We are delighted that Nick Jr. have shown such a strong commitment to this wonderful show, having an international platform for Wanda at such an early stage is fantastic and will enable us to get the show out to the widest possible audience.”
Ed Galton, CCO & Managing Director, CAKE, “Wanda and the Alien is a fresh and exciting show with a really interesting storyline. We are very proud to have found a great home for it at Nick Jr. and it is a wonderful first step on to the international market.”
