Monster Distributes has struck a deal with One Media to distribute the animated series DICK SPANNER (22x6), a tongue-in-cheek 1986 British television series for adults featuring puppets filmed entirely in stop-motion animation, starring mild-mannered robot private detective Dick Spanner.
Created by renowned animator Gerry Anderson (THUNDERBIRDS, FIREBALL XL5, STINGRAY), the series has now been remastered and will be distributed internationally for the first time.
In a parallel universe, Dick Spanner has a sleek, street-wise approach to his cases in the manner of a tough New York private eye but no matching expertise. He ineptly follows a trail of clues and encounters some glaringly dodgy characters along the way, constantly avoiding death and destruction by an unending series of flukes and outrageous luck.
Commissioned by Channel Four, the program was originally screened in the U.K. as part of Janet Street Porter’s Sunday morning show NETWORK SEVEN but was later given a late night showing, where its sly satire could perhaps be better appreciated.
Monster has had a lot of success with adult animation including Oscar-winning HARVIE KRUMPET, Oscar-nominated JASPER MORELLO and Emmy-winning IT'S JERRY TIME, and is looking forward to relaunching this newly restored series as it did with animated special BANJO THE WOODPILE CAT.
