15 finalists from over 680 student submissions and 34 countries competed for 2021 honors; categories included animation, games, and immersive projects.
The GSA BAFTA Student Awards celebrates and rewards the next generation of talented and innovative filmmakers and creatives from around the globe. As one of BAFTA’s most global initiatives, this year’s 15 finalists were selected from over 680 submissions by students from film schools in 34 countries including China, South Africa, Norway, Denmark, France, the U.S.A., and the U.K.
The BAFTA Student Award winners in animation, games, and immersive are as follows:
Animation:
- Migrants (Pôle 3D, France) - Hugo Caby, Antoine Dupriez, Aubin Kubiak, Lucas Lermytte and Zoé Devise.
- Two polar bears are driven into exile due to global warming. They encounter brown bears along their journey, with whom they try to cohabitate with.
Games:
- Symphonia (Isart Digital, France) - Guillaume Roux
- The project is a 2D platforming game developed as a graduate videogame released in June 2020 – players explore and awaken a gigantic musical realm in this tight and poetic platformer. Use your violin bow to make your way through the world and play the best of concertos.
Immersive:
- Out for Delivery (New York University, USA) - Yuxin Gao, Lillyan Ling, Gus Boehling and John Bruneau
- The project follows Chinese migrant-workers in Beijing in January 2020, on the day that Wuhan first went into lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Student finalists accepted their awards virtually from their homes, having taken part in a series of online events held by BAFTA. This year’s finalists were from China, South Africa, Norway, Denmark, France, the U.S., and U.K.
