Martin Promises More Dragons in ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff

Unnamed Game of Thrones prequel in development at HBO to feature the fiery reign of the Targaryen’s and their faithful dragon companions.

Fear not, Westeros addicts! If the series finale of Game of Thrones has left a dragon-shaped void in your Sunday evenings, we have good news. There are currently FIVE spinoffs in development for the wildly popular HBO series. At the head of this George R. R. Martin-shaped content behemoth is a prequel series set thousands of years before Game of Thrones series, during the first White Walker march on the Wall. While this icy tale may have piqued many a fan’s interest, the second prequel spinoff promises fire: this elusive Targaryen-centric spinoff will be sourced from Martin’s 2018 novel, “Fire & Blood.” While many theories are circulating around the exact themes of these new shows, we do know a couple of things for certain: Martin has revealed that, “there will be dragons,” narrowing the timeframe to between 200-300 years before the plot of Game of Thrones; and, the material will be written by Ryan Condal, known for his work on the scripts of Hercules (2014) and Rampage. While a pilot for this prequel series has not yet been ordered, it seems only a matter of time before we get our dragons back, safe for the moment from the Night King’s ice spear.
