Kadokawa Pictures has announced that it will release Hiroyuki Okiura seven-years-in the-making A LETTER TO MOMO in 300 screens across Japan during the spring holiday of Golden Week, reports Variety. Okiura last directed 1999's JIN-ROH.

The story follows a young girl, who along with her mother, moves to an isolated island after the death of her father. There she experiences supernatural events.

The film is making its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.

Three hundred screens is a massive release for Japan, especially for an animated feature not based on a manga or TV series. For example the ONE PIECE feature, ONE PIECE FILM: STRONG WORLD, was only released on 188 screens.
