Incredibles Grabs Golden Globe Nomination

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. announced the nominations for the 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Dec. 13, 2004, at 5.30 am PST. Animation fans will be happy to know that THE INCREDIBLES landed a nomination in the Best Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy category. Toons have won the category before TOY STORY 2 took the award in 2000. The Parr family will be pitted against two visual effects heavy flicks in ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, as well as the Ray Charles biopic RAY and indie sensation SIDEWAYS.

In other, visual effects news, THE AVIATOR and FINDING NEVERLAND will vie for the Best Motion Picture Drama award with CLOSER, HOTEL RWANDA, KINSEY and MILION DOLLAR BABY. Likewise, effects heavy films HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS and A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT will tussle with THE CHORUS (LES CHORISTES), THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES and THE SEA INSIDE for Best Foreign Language Film.

Animation makes another appearance in the Best Original Song -- Motion Picture with nominations going to ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE from SHREK 2 (Music & Lyrics by: Adam Duritz, Dan Vickery, David Immergluck, Matthew Malley & David Bryson) and BELIEVE from THE POLAR EXPRESS (Music & Lyrics by: Glen Ballard & Alan Silvestri). The other nods in the category went to LEARN TO BE LONELY from ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Music by: Andrew Lloyd Webber; Lyrics by: Charles Hart), MILLION VOICES from HOTEL RWANDA (Music by: Wyclef Jean, Jerry Wonder Duplessis, Andrea Guerra; Lyrics by: Wyclef Jean) and OLD HABITS DIE HARD from ALFIE (Music & Lyrics by: Mick Jagger & David A. Stewart).

As for TV, visual effects work is on display in all the Best Television Series Drama category nominees, which include 24, DEADWOOD, LOST, NIP/TUCK and THE SOPRANOS. F/X and animation can also be seen in the Best Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made For Television category with nods going to AMERICAN FAMILY -- JOURNEY OF DREAMS, IRON JAWED ANGELS, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS, THE LION IN WINTER and SOMETHING THE LORD MADE.
