GKIDS Acquires ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-’ Feature Rights

The first-ever collaboration between the ‘Evangelion’ series’ studio khara and Sunrise, home of the ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ animated series, hits North American theaters on February 28.

GKIDS has acquired North American theatrical distribution rights for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, which hits theaters February 28. The deal was negotiated between GKIDS and Bandai Namco Filmworks, marking the first collaboration between the two companies.

EVANGELION creator Hideaki Anno’s studio khara and Sunrise, the home to the Mobile Suit Gundam animated works, have collaborated on the production, which enlisted an all-star roster of top animation creatives. Kazuya Tsurumaki (EVANGELION, FLCL) directs. Yoji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Bungo Stray Dogs) is attached as series supervisor and screenwriter and is joined by the Anno for the screenplay.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- re-edits episodes from the upcoming series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. The film was released in Japan on January 17.

Illustrator Take (Katanagatari, Zaregoto, Pokemon Series) serves as character designer, with Ikuto Yamashita (EVANGELION, Shin Kamen Rider) as the mechanical designer. 

“The outrageous combination of artistic talent collaborating on such a storied series as Mobile Suit Gundam is appointment viewing,” said GKIDS President David Jesteadt. “We are proud to play a part in bringing such an exciting new project to audiences in the cinematic experience that the film truly deserves.”
