Anna Drezen’s adult animated series, which follows Petey as she takes over as leader of her late father’s cult, will not be renewed; the entire first season is now streaming on Freeform and Hulu.
Praise Petey, the 2D animated series created, written, and executive produced by Anna Drezen (former head writer of Saturday Night Live), has been officially cancelled by Freeform after one season. Drezen recently took to Instagram to share the sad news.
Petey, aka Petra, begins the series as an NYC “It Girl” with everything figured out until her well-curated life comes crashing down. A mysterious gift from her deceased father gives her a new lease on life – taking over as leader of his small-town cult New Utopia. As Petey leans into her new role as a “girl boss,” she discovers what it means to be a leader and how to find her voice as she tries to modernize her late father’s small-town cult.
Praise Petey features a stellar voice cast led by Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek), Christine Baranski (The Good Fight), Stephen Root (Barry), John Cho (Star Trek), and Kiersey Clemons (The Flash).
In addition to Drezen, the series is executive produced by Bandera Entertainment’s Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Dustin Davis alongside ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio), and Monica Padrick (Central Park). The series is produced by Disney Television Studios’ 20th Television Animation, with animation by ShadowMachine.
Praise Petey Season 1 consists of 10 episodes, all of which are now streaming on Freeform and Hulu.
