Disney Cinemagic, the premium family movie channel, has signed a multi-year deal with Sky to be the first Disney branded channel broadcast in HD in the U.K. The new channel will launch on the U.K.'s HD service, Sky+HD, in December.
Disney Cinemagic is the first place on television to see the latest Disney and Disney/Pixar animated movies alongside classic Disney movies and series. The new channel will broadcast the majority in native HD and the Christmas schedule includes the British television premieres of the award-winning Disney-Pixar animated movie RATATOUILLE and TINKERBELL from John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Disney Animation Studios and Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures. New Year highlights include SLEEPING BEAUTY and THE INCREDIBLES.
Over the past few years, Disney has focused using new technologies to deliver great content and enhance the viewers' experience and families will now be treated to unbeatable, sharp and vibrant picture quality thanks to the HD format.
Disney Cinemagic launched in the U.K. in March 2006 on the Sky premium package and it has become the destination channel for Disney family movies with recent premieres including CARS, MEET THE ROBINSONS and the classic 101 DALMATIANS.
Sky+HD is the UK's most comprehensive HD service with 28 dedicated (29 with the launch of Disney Cinemagic HD) channels offering over 10,000 hours of true HD content each month, more than 40 times the HD output of any other platform. Launched in May 2006, it is Sky's fastest ever growing additional TV product with over half a million Sky homes now enjoying the richness and intensity of programming in high definition and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
Disney Cinemagic HD will be available to Sky+HD customers who take a Sky Movies subscription.
