15-year company veteran will leave by end of year; Michael Ouweleen will take over on interim basis.
Christina Miller, president of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang and TCM, is stepping down after 15 years with the company and will exit at year’s end. In an email sent out this morning, Miller stated, “This is not a decision I came to lightly. It’s one of the hardest I’ve had to make in my career. Ultimately, it feels like the right time for me to leave and take a little time to think about what comes next, but I do so, feeling immensely proud of the work we’ve done together and so grateful for the experience.”
Michael Ouweleen, executive VP and chief marketing officer of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, will take over on an interim basis, with Miller helping during the transition.
As the leader of all the company’s kids and young adult programming, Miller was in charge of all content development and production. Her departure comes at a time of rapid change at WarnerMedia, previously known as Time Warner, in the aftermath of AT&T’s massive $85 billion purchase in June 2018. Kids and family entertainment groups previously part of the Turner cable division were moved into Warner Bros., under Kevin Tsujihara, at the time chairman and CEO, who almost immediately stepped down after being investigated for an improper sexual relationship. He was replaced by Ann Sarnoff.
WarnerMedia just recently announced the upcoming May 2020 launch of its consolidated SVOD platform, HBO Max, as well as a series of high-profile content acquisitions that include the $500 million deal for exclusive South Park streaming rights as well as the first streaming deal ever for the 21 film Studio Ghibli library.
