Causeway Shares ‘Breaking Cycles: Building Lives – The Animation’ Short

U.K.-based charity that supports 4,500+ individuals each year to help them break out of cycles of crime taps CC Animation Studio to help tell the real-life story of one man who did.

U.K.-based charity Causeway recently partnered with award-winning Bristol-based studio CC Animation Studio to produce an animated short for the organization’s “Breaking Cycles: Building Lives” campaign that shines a spotlight on the real-life stories of people who have broken free from the cycle of crime that was holding them back from living their lives.

Causeway supports and advises over 4,500 individuals each year who are committed to breaking out of cycles of crime.

The 2D animated short, Breaking Cycles: Building Lives – The Animation tells the real-life story of a man called Dwayne Jack. Against a backdrop of childhood trauma and neglect, from six-years-old, Dwayne began committing crime. By his teen years, Dwayne was doing crack cocaine, and convicted of robbery, theft, and drug dealing. At 13-years-old, Dwayne received his first Detention Training Order, and 17 years in-and-out of prison followed.

When Dwayne, now 39, left prison in 2014 for the last time, he was committed to a life free from crime, and wanting to prevent others from going down the criminal road he had. Now 10 years on from his release from prison, Dwayne hasn’t been involved in crime since, and now works to support others from criminal offending.

The short features Royce Pierreson (The Witcher, Line of Duty) as the voice of Dwayne and award-winning Zoë Wanamaker narrates. The film features Dwayne’s exact words.

“It has been a real honor to work with Causeway on this project,” shared CC Animation Studio creative director Dann Casswell. “CC Animation Studio are passionate about using animation to tell complex and emotive stories, and talk about things that are important, but difficult to address, and that’s exactly what I hope this animation does, through telling the story about the devastating impact childhood trauma can have on a person as they move into adulthood. We also hope that it raises awareness on the important work which organizations like Causeway are doing, so that more survivors of trauma are supported to process what they’ve been through and build positive futures from there.”
