Taking place this November in Hangzhou, China, IAF looks at ‘Chinese Independent Animation in the 21st Century;’ submissions are now open for international animated films, research papers, and proposals focused on Chinese animation; entries must be received by September 30.
West Lake International Animation Festival (IAF) will take place in Hangzhou, China this coming November 2021 after a delay of almost two years due to COVID-19. Dates have not yet been announced. Hosted by the China Academy of Art (CAA) and scheduled to be held every two years, IAF 2021 will include screenings, academic forums, lectures, and animated film competitions. This year’s theme is "Chinese Independent Animation in the 21st Century."
The festival has established a section dedicated to the encouragement and expansion of theoretical research on animation, in particular the selection and support of academic research on Chinese animation.
Researchers are invited to submit their papers about Chinese animation - the winning papers will be published by the publishing house of the China Academy of Art after the event. The deadline for submission is September 30, 2021.
- Submit research articles or works that have been completed after January 1, 2020, and not have been published in any public before, including but not limited to domestic and foreign publications and the Internet, etc.
- The submission of research proposals is allowed as well. For specific information, please refer to the registration regulations.
- Theme of 2021 IAF Research Award: Chinese Animation.
- The winning papers will be published by the publishing house of the China Academy of Art after the event.
- There’s no entry fee for submissions to the festival.
IAF 2021 is also now accepting submissions of animated films from around the world. Through the competition the IAF Award aims to encourage creation, exploration, discovery, and dissemination of masterpieces. The deadline for submission is September 30, 2021.
- Films submitted for IAF 2021 must have had the premiere after January 1, 2020. The theme, form, style, length of the work is unlimited.
- The winners will be announced during IAF 2021.
