GSS luminaries gather for opening night reception launching ‘The Art of Google Spotlight Stories’ book and art exhibit on display at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA through April 22.
The award-winning Google Spotlight Stories team -- artists and technologists making immersive stories for mobile 360, mobile VR, and room-scale VR headsets -- has come out with a new book celebrating and exploring the artistry behind the groundbreaking short film series. “The Art of Google Spotlight Stories” had its launch this past Saturday night at the opening reception for the book and accompanying art exhibit on display through April 22 at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA.
The Google Spotlight Stories crew was out in full force, assembling directors, production designers, animation supervisors, and more to sign copies of the new book for fans, who were lined up around the block hours before the event.
In addition to rubbing elbows with animation luminaries such as Kevin Dart, Jorge Gutierrez, John Kahrs, Patrick Osborne and Shannon Tindle, the reception and book signing also offered a sneak preview at three new projects currently in production: Back to the Moon, directed by FX Goby and Helene Leroux, Piggy (Jan Pinkava and Mark Oftedal) and Age of Sail (Kahrs). While most of the details about these new projects are still firmly under wraps, the new book gives a taste of what’s to come with a generous number of character designs, concept art, and more.
