Bomper Studio Announces Animation Contest

Studio challenges aspiring character animators to create their own 10-20 second animation; entry deadline is August 15, 2020.

In January 2020, Bomper Studio released Coffee Run; a story of a hard-pressed protagonist making an elaborate coffee round for his colleagues. The film was made as part of an in-house competition and exercise in creating the studio’s first stand-alone short, with one character and environment using Cinema 4D.

Bomper Studio has decided to make the complex rig of the protagonist, Colin, available for free, and challenge aspiring animators to create their own 10-20 second animation. The winner of the competition will receive a full year free subscription to Cinema 4D, a high-end graphics workstation from Renderboxes and access to all departments at Bomper Studio.

The contest is open to all aspiring animators looking to expand their talents, with no set theme. To enter, simply follow @maxonc4d and @bomperstudio on Instagram and post your submission with the hashtag #movingcolin by August 15, 2020.

To kick-off the competition Bomper produced a webinar, where Claire Hodges and Alan Towndrow, both animators at Bomper, explained the rig and gave insights into the basics of character animation.

The jury includes Emlyn Davies, founder of Bomper Studio, Alwyn Hunt, co-founder of the The Rookies Award, character specialist Can Erduman, and the makers of Maxon. Once they have selected a shortlist, an extra jury seat will go out to the public on Instagram, so viewers can join the jury and help vote for the winner.

If you enjoy character animation and are at the early stages of your career, this competition is the perfect opportunity to experiment, showcase your skills to the community and win some fantastic prizes.
