The Grand Cliche: I want to work in animation.

Yep. I'm one of those. "I want to be a storyboard artist." I know I probably seem like the biggest cliche right now, but let's stop for a second: I'm in high school, I'm talented, and I'm debating not going to animation school.

Given my financial situation, I don't think I'll be able to afford CalArts. I could feasibly go to the metropolitan institute in Budapest for by 12k/year budget, but probably not anywhere in the USA for animation. I'm an Italian citizen, so Europe makes sense...Right? Maybe not- the education isn't anywhere near as good as USA based ones and it's harder to gauge how good they'll be.

I'm going to be cocky for a second and you're all probably going to a vomit because there's nothing more annoying than an artist talking about how good they are. I have a stupid amount of talent when it comes to illustration. I mean, I've been offered a full scholarship to Chicago. Doubt CalArts will do the same for me.

So the question is: do I go to an international school for animation? Do I take a gap year and tour Europe and build my traditional art portfolio? Or do I try to get apprenticeships at big name companies?

BTW- I dont mind the idea of workplace politics, pressure, high strung talented people. Im an admin on a big name company and have been for a while. Everything I read on glassdoor generally has me saying "oh my, I can see myself here." I even love all the cons.
