Copywrite issue ?

I'm just curious about something. I've decided to make an animation of a short story by a very well known author, right now, I'm really just approaching it as an exercise for the next couple of months, between leaving school and going to college. Hopefully I'll learn a thing or two.

I don't plan on making any money off it, but if the animation does work out, and I'm satisfied with it, would I face copywrite issues if I wanted to enter it in a competition, or post it online for others to see?

Well, if the guy's been dead for a couple of decades and doesn't have any living relatives now holding the rights to his work, you're in the clear. If not you'll have to secure the rights if you plan on ever displaying your work publicly.

When in doubt, seek permission from the original author or their estate.
The LAST thing you want is to assume you can do this, broadcast it and then find there's a copyright challenge to what you have done. It could throw all that hard work down the tubes.
