animation programs?

I've recently started using flash to do my traditional 2d animations, so I don't have to deal with organizing paper and shooting each time I wanna view any changes. Unfortunately all the line art I create with my Wacom in Flash is vector, which is a huge downfall.
Today I attended a workshop taught by Glenn Vilppu here at Savannah College of Art and Design, and he showed us Alias Sketchbook (along with his toshiba tablet pc). From what I saw, I really liked the program for creating the line art, but it's not an animation program.
Does anyone know of a program that's as animation friendly as flash (ghosting, etc) but imitates pencil art rather than vectors?
If not, why isn't there one???

I think even the top animation programs are intended for vector art, I would also assume that this sketchbook program is.
When you say pencil art, I wonder if you just mean standard styles of animation, which, depending on who you ask, can be done completely with vectors (including flash).

Actually Bossmonkey ! You have a superb point there !?! HotDAMN !

Sketchbook isn't an animation program, or else I'd be using that =\
and I HAVE done animation using the vector line art Flash provides, but I'd prefer a really nice pencil tool. The problem with drawing with vector lines in flash is 1: it forces the flash vector style, and 2: it corrects the line you draw to make it smoother as soon as you draw it, so the lines you're putting down aren't actually your art. granted, a lot of the time this makes the art look better, but that's a crutch I'd rather not develop, and it doesn't have as much life as pencil line art (i.e. a lot of animators prefer the rough animations sketches to the cleaned up versions)

Sounds like you have the smoothing setting on the tool a little too high for your tastes. You can adjust it downward, all the way to the point where it doesn't do any smoothing of your input at all. As always, when in doubt RTFM.

I would give Plastic Animation Paper a try. I just downloaded the trial version and I'm going to test it out for some of my Animation Mentor assignments. It's a bitmap based program instead of Vector like Flash is. Also if you might what to try using the paint brush tool instead of the pencil, that should give it a less computery look to it. Check out some of Pascal's shorts in the show and tell section. They have a very nice rough animation look to them.

Hah that made my morning...
