new short - Flash, photos, & clay animation

A new story concept and animation technique I've been experimenting with. This is sort of a short, musical montage of a larger, longer movie I'm working on. It's better as a video (the intended output) but this Flash version plays pretty well for most machines. Take a look.

Very cute.
How did you do this?

How'd I do it?

It's assembled in Flash. The 2D characters are all drawn, inked, then scanned and bitmapped-traced in Flash for coloring. The goal is to balance out the "tweening" that Flash does so easily with enough actual hand-drawn sequential movements to give an overall "fully" animated effect. There's more refining and polishing to do, but it's getting there.

The photos are a combination of jpegs for backgrounds and pngs for foreground objects--things like rocks and trees that are silo'd for multi-plane effects.

The volcano is a series of pngs; the base and then all the facial features are layered up pngs, like a Mr. Potato Head.

That's little ol' me on the uke. --ted
