Animation Studios in San Diego

Hello everyone, I have a 4 year BFA in computer animation and I moved to Orlando, FL to find a job. After 1.5 years I gave up on animation to pursue graphic design (to pay my bills). Now 3 years later, I want to give it another shot. I've been working on some new pieces for my reel and I'm thinking of moving to San Diego, CA to find work. Does anyone know of any links to go to for a listing of animation studios in San Diego? What does the industry look like in San Diego (hiring, not hiring)?

Thanks in advance,
Kerry

interview

To Kerry B,

I am a current student at the Art Institute California San Diego. I saw that you have been in the animation industry. Due to animation being my major, a required assignment of ours is to interview someone in the animation industry. I was wondering if at all possible I could take a few minutes of your time and maybe do a quick e-mail interview of what it's like in the business. If you could do so by Fri, sorry for the late notice, I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.

hey KerryB

do a search for "craigs list" for the San Diego area. They seem to have good listings usually, and they are area specific, like new york craigs list for example.

Hi Kerryb and welcome to the AWN Forums.

What type of 3D animation are you looking at doing? Games? Feature films? FX? I'm not sure about game companies down in San Diego but I know there aren't any doing features down there. If it's features you want to get into I'd sugest moving to Los Angeles. At least there I know there are Disney, Dreamworks, Sony, Digital Domain, Rythm and Hues, Blur, and a few I'm leaving out I'm sure as well as several game companies are in the area as well. If you move to where there are lots of companies, your odds of getting hired are that much better that if you moved to Idaho or something.
