This was inspired in part by some of Ralph Bakshi's work. Animation Blast had a link to his new website, and I love the architecture he uses in some of his background.
This is the community college where my two main characters work as maintenance guys. I got the idea and knocked it out in about 15 minutes. Later I'll do a clean up, maybe finish it in watercolor or paint it digitally. Usually i have a compulsive need to have straight lines and a sense of right geometry, and I found I can still apply that to this kind of style. Good practice for me.

Aaaand here's the finished watercolor. Although I can find a lot of flaws with it, I still feel pretty good about it. I don't have a lot of experience doing backgrounds by hand, and not too much experience with watercolor either. I won't use this in my cartoon for a number of reasons, but it was a good exercise changing the way I draw buildlings and doing a setting like this.
