The American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre presents Korean and Japanese Animation Today from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. This free program starts with the controversial Korean animation AACHI & SSIPAK (2006, Studio 2.0, 90 min.) about a futuristic city that relies on human waste as its energy source, followed by a reception with food and drink at 12:30 pm. At 1:30 pm is THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME (2006, Cathay-Keris Films, 98 min.), directed by Mamoru Hosoda. High school student Makoto prolongs the fun she has when goes back in time.
Following an intermission is an hour long panel discussion with moderator Ken Duer (producer of the ANIMATRIX), Bum-Jin Joe (director of AACHI AND SSIPAK), Mamoru Hosoda (director of THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME), USC professor Mimi Ito and other anime critics.
This event is at the Lloyd E. Theatre at the historic Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Las Palmas) in Hollywood. Guests subject to availability.
