I'm still kinda new around here, but I thought a sketch thread would be as good a place to start as any.
This will probably be mostly figure studies, but I might slip something else in from time to time.
I'm still learning, so any comments/critiques are always appreciated.
Poses range from 1 to 25 minutes with most at the shorter end.

Thanks! Will try...

Hi ElusiveMoose,
These are really good, you have a good sense of proportion. I would prefer to see the sketches embedded into the thread rather than as thumbnails though.
If I was doing life drawing sessions like this I probably wouldn't think too much about the face as it's not often you have a naked figure to draw from. You could maybe do some facial studies in your own time, there is always access to a mirror.
Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks! :o
I'm actually lucky enough to be in an area that I have access to two of these sessions a week for most of the year. But, yeah. I keep telling myself to focus on the body and gesture and weight. But the face keeps mocking me...

Hi ElsuiveMoose,
Thanks for embedding the images, it's so much more user friendly. I'm reading Vilppu at the moment too, "there are no rules, just tools" :)
Good stuff, keep it up.

Thanks.
If you have the cash, the Vilppu DVD's blow the drawing manual away. Much more helpful in my opinion.
Cost an arm and a leg, though...

Nice work so far Moose. My only real comment is, don't skimp on the faces, hands and feet. Even if these are just quick studies, put in some sort of face and not just a "t" face.

Hey, thanks.
Yeah, I was lamenting last week about how much trouble I have making a face not look cartoony. I have to really buckle down with that, I guess.
Always more to learn and improve on. I'm glad I enjoy it!

I dig the latest batch. I find for realistic faces, less can be more sometimes. Especially when drawing eyes.
great anatomy studies.......I've always wanted to take a class in anatomy...never could afford it so I just went to strip clubs hahahahaha. but hey it helped.
great work though keep at it

Strip clubs are cheaper than figure drawing classes?!?!?
I wonder if my wife would buy that...
Thanks, Cart. I love your work.
And I hope you're feeling better (just saw your thread).
Stay well!

One thing to keep in mind is that the human eye goes to contrasting things. I'm not really seeing the anatomy, shading and proportions in your drawings because my eye goes right to the big "t" on the head. If for right now you just shade in the eye sockets, and add a shadow under the nose and lower lip, that would be enough. The more often you draw something the better you'll get at it, so at this rate, in a few year's you'll have some great body drawings and a poor head. If you have a hard time with something, heads, hands and feet, draw them more. I speak from experience here. I drew the exact same way as you, and now I still have a hard time drawing heads and hands.
Keep up the good work.

Missed Wed's studio... Went back to practice gestures with Vilppu...
Models are from pics on DVD #1... Wasn't real strict with time...anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes...

Monday night studios have started up again, so I'm back on 18x24 paper and an easel.
After almost three months working small on a drawing board or Wacom, this was quite a change. And it shows...
My arm was soooo tired...just after the warm up!
I'm hoping after a couple of sessions, I'll get back into it.

Another Wednesday, another figure study studio...
I'm getting frustrated with my inability to render non-cartoony facial features. Any advice?

I'm back on the Vilppu DVD's. Working on "Spherical Forms".
I'm kinda getting it, but proportions suffered as a result.
Per Cobster's request, I'm embedding these.

Try viewing the face the same way you do the planes and shapes of the body. Capturing true candid expression is going to hinge on that.
