Media Offers Funding For U.K. Initiatives

The U.K. MEDIA Desk is now offering U.K. industry professionals the opportunity to apply for development funding for long fiction, documentary, animation and multimedia projects. The MEDIA Plus program, based in Brussels, is calling U.K. production companies to apply for development funding for their projects throughout the first six months of 2003. The funding covers single projects and slate funding. The final date for submissions is June 16, 2003. In 2002, £1.6 million was awarded to U.K.

CCS Presents Guest Speakers In Animation And Digital Media

Detroit, Michigan's College for Creative Studies (CCS) Animation and Digital Media department will welcome a group of industry experts in 2002. Lanfranco Aceti, Thom Gillespie and Bill Tomlinson will be guest speakers at a series of presentations hosted by the college. Lanfranco Aceti is a digital artist and a Ph.D. researcher in fine art at Central Saint Martins in London. He has been focusing on the cross-platform media as expression of the contemporary avant-garde. Aceti will be giving an open presentation on November 25, 2002 from 5:00 7:00 pm.

Producer Dudley Johnson Signs On With B1 Media

Design studio B1 Media has added producer Dudley Johnson to its recently launched production division. Johnson, a former assistant producer, technical writer and product specialist at Disney Interactive, will be writing and producing for B1. While at Disney Interactive he helped produce the CD-Roms CINDERELLAS DOLLHOUSE, YOU CAN FLY! WITH TINKER BELL and PRINCESS MAGICAL DRESS UP. Johnson previously wrote for the NBC sitcom DIFFERENT STROKES, and was a co-producer, executive story editor and writer for the ABC series WEBSTER.

Marco Bertoldo Joins Mondo Media

Director Marco Bertoldo has joined San Francisco-based animation production company Mondo Media. In his new position, Bertoldo will assume creative responsibilities for Mondo Medias 3D animation division. Bertoldo is best known for his 3D short GONE BAD, which was featured at the Sundance Online Film Festival 2001 and 2002, and recently won the animation category for the Alice Radio 3-Minute Film Festival. Previously, Marco Bertoldo worked as a freelance animation director for Mondo Media, supervising projects for clients such as Fox Interactive, Activision, Crystal Dynamics and 3DO.

Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design Animation Grad Show

The Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design 2002 Grad Show opens on Saturday, May 4th and runs until May 17th, at 1399 Johnston St. on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC, Canada

Animation and Integrated Media works are screening on an ongoing basis in the South Building Lecture Theater, room 328. The Animation program will screen daily at 12:00pm, and the Integrated Media program will follow it at 1:30pm. Animation students are exhibiting storyboards, background drawings, puppets, etc., in the North Building, room 243.

Established as an artists' colony more than a century ago, Taos is known for it's eclectic mixture of cultures, traditions & philosophies. It is in this light that festival organizers program over 150 new indie films & videos, incl. features, documentaries, animation, videos & shorts during its four-day event. Highlights include: Tributes; Latino & Native American programs, as well as comprehensive Media Literacy Forum w/ panel discussions, workshops & demonstrations focusing on the state of media. Entries should have been completed within 18 months of fest & should be New Mexico premieres.

Jeff Stabenau, founder and former president of Crush Digital, has launched a new company, Blink Digital, to offer content preparation services for a broad range of digital media. DVD authoring will be the focus of the new company, a division of Liberty Livewire, but it will also offer preparation, conversion and optimization services for streaming media, interactive television media and archival digital media formats. Stabenau and former Crush Digital technical director Michael Ory, have been joined at Blink Digital by many other former Crush Digital staff.
