Transformers 2 Dominates Weekend Box Office

TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN transformed people's paychecks into box office revenue this weekend, pulling in $108.97M over the weekend for a total five-day gross of $200.08M. That's the second-best five day opening ever, just after THE DARK KNIGHT (which made $203.8 million last year).

The Paramount/DreamWorks film (vfx by ILM and Asylum VFX, Digital Domain, Kerner Optical and Proof) has done $390.3 million in global box office since Wednesday.

Last week's winner, romantic comedy THE PROPOSAL (Disney, vfx by Brickyard VFX), dropped to the number two slot with $18.6M and a two-week take of $69.16M.

THE HANGOVER continues to hang on with $17.02 in its third week out and a total cume of $183.05M for Warner Bros, good enough for third place.

Disney-Pixar's UP brought in $13.06M for fourth place and has a five-week gross of $250.2M to become the year's highest box office earner so far.

Counter programmer MY SISTER'S KEEPER (Warner Bros., vfx by Matte World Digital) debuted in fifth place with $12.4M.

Sony's YEAR ONE (vfx by Hammerhead Productions) fell from fourth to sixth place with $6.02M. The historically-inaccurate comedy has earned $32.5M in two weeks.

Actioner THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3 (Sony, vfx by Asylum VFX and Eye-Spy Productions) placed seventh with $5.5M and has a three-week cume of $53.5M.

Eighth place went to Paramount's STAR TREK (vfx by ILM, Lola Visual Effects, Evil Eye Pictures, and Svengali Visual Effects) with $3.7M and $246.3M in eight weeks.

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN fell from sixth to ninth place, bringing in $3.64M for Fox and in six weeks has made $163.4M. The Ben Stiller comedy has vfx from CafeFX, Dac Studios, Giant Studios, Image Engine Design and Pixel Playground.

Rounding out the top ten was Sam Mendes' AWAY WE GO (Focus Features), expanding to 495 theaters in its fourth week in release and bringing in $1.7M. In total, the film has done $4.08M.

In animated features, DreamWorks' MONSTERS VS. ALIENS made another $365,080 for a 14 week cume of $196M. CORALINE (Focus Features) made $7,521 and in 21 weeks has earned $75.28M. Regent's re-release of $9.99 brought in $5,348 and in five weeks has done $22,475.

BATTLE FOR TERRA (Lionsgate) earned $363 for a nine-week cume of $1.6M.
